THE QUILL

What Is Belinean Quill?

The Quill is the oldest known spiritual system in the galaxy — an energy-based belief structure built around balance, purpose, and the relationship between atoms, planets, and individual beings. Though practiced differently across worlds such as Belinea, Verona, and Avola, all forms of Quill share a common symbol: the Diamond.

The Quill Diamond is hollow at its center and marked by four fieldstones, each representing one of the foundational roles believed necessary for a stable society. Each is intertwined uniquely to the planet it is practiced on. To each follower of the Quill, a specific fieldstone color is symbolic to their relationship with the energy. The color comes in different shades, is worn with their Quill diamond in its position setting with no other stones.

In rare occasions, fieldstones bear stripes, caused by deeper relationships with the energy, that only Quillisars seem to understand. The Quillisars are the Priests/Priestess of the religion, bound to serve the energy at all costs. They are dedicated, frowned to be in romantic relationships, and absolutely bare no children.

Across the centuries, the Quill evolved into more than religion. It shaped governments, military orders, social hierarchy, education, philosophy, architecture, and even warfare itself. Entire planetary cultures came to define themselves through their interpretation of the Diamond.

In Belinean Quill, the energy comes through the planets trees, forests, mountain rock and mercury ore.

Avolan Quill

Avolan Quill is among the oldest surviving interpretations of the Diamond still openly practiced within the western hemisphere of the planet. Rooted in clan tradition, survival, and the violent nature of Avola itself, its followers believe the Quill is not merely philosophy, but a living force intertwined with the planet.

Unlike the rigid hierarchy of modern Belinean doctrine, Avolan Quill places greater emphasis on balance through hardship, sacrifice, and endurance. Many of its teachings revolve around surviving the storms of Avola — both literal and spiritual.

The Avolan Diamond differs significantly from the modern Belinean interpretation. Warriors occupy the top position within the Diamond, represented through the crimson-orange fieldstone associated with fire, sacrifice, and protection. Followers believe civilization cannot survive unless someone is willing to defend it.

Following the Belinean Revolution and the occupation of Avola, many Quill practices were outlawed, suppressed, or forced underground by the Guraan.

Veronan Quill

Veronan Quill is widely believed to be the oldest surviving interpretation of the Diamond and the spiritual foundation from which many later Quill systems emerged. Centered on philosophy, artistic expression, scientific discovery, and emotional balance, Veronan Quill shaped much of the early culture of the Guraan long before the rise of modern Belinean rule.

Unlike the more militant superiority structure of modern Belinean Quill, Veronan doctrine places greater emphasis on wisdom, creativity, reflection, and the pursuit of understanding. Its followers believe balance is achieved not through control, but through harmony between knowledge, faith, creation, and sacrifice. The energy originates from the polar ice caps, cold mountains, violent ocean storms, and a hidden heat that protrudes through the planets core.

For centuries, Verona served as one of the spiritual centers of the galaxy, producing some of the most respected Quillisars, scholars, and architects in recorded history. Many ancient Quill texts still studied throughout the Guraan originated on Verona. Following the Belinean Revolution, however, Veronan Quill rapidly lost political influence across the galaxy. Modern Belinean leadership increasingly viewed Veronan teachings as weak, outdated, and politically dangerous.

Still practiced in the Temples of the cold mountain forests, The Quill and their Quillisars are rumored to be protected by an array of animals they communicate with, as well as the very few (if any) remaining Akashi soldiers that were not killed during the Belinean Revolution.

Though diminished politically, Veronan Quill remains deeply respected by historians, scholars, and older Quill traditions throughout the galaxy.

Quill Factoids…

  • Tiloian Quill originated on Serpia centuries ago. However, following the extinction of its followers during the Serpian Civil War, very little is known about the religion itself. Though the Belineans originally rose to power as sworn protectors of the Quill during Holden Hasarra’s rise throughout the Belinean Revolution, many years later they systematically removed evidence of nearly every form of Quill that was not Belinean.

  • Through surviving texts and older Quillisar teachings, the Tiloians were remembered as deeply devout, fanatical, and unwaveringly loyal to their beliefs.

  • The energy of the Quill — shaped through both the power of the fieldstones and the planets from which they originate — is what allows warriors to generate weapons through their bikais.

  • Every Quill Temple, regardless of faction, traditionally displays a levitating hollow Quill Diamond suspended near its entrance. Most are constructed from a mysterious black ore believed to resonate with Quill energy itself.

  • Quillisars serve as the spiritual leaders and priests of their respective Quill traditions. Belinean Quillisars are almost exclusively male, while Veronan and Avolan Quillisars are predominantly female. As with much surrounding Tiloian Quill, very little is known about their Quillisars.

  • Before the Belinean Revolution, Archon Lazarus of Verona ruled the Guraan while Quillisar Farra served as his chief Quill advisor, protected by the Quill warriors of Verona known as the Akashi. After a rigorous spiritual quest known as Spaventa (now outlawed by Belinean Quillisar Prill) , the Akashi became equal with their Quillisar piers, but remain fiercely loyal to protecting them. Under the leadership of Lazarus and Farra, all recognized forms of the Quill were largely accepted and respected, despite the frequent political tensions between Verona, Serpia, and the Tiloian followers.

  • Quillisars are most commonly recognized by their ceremonial robes, often appearing in various shades of red depending on the tradition. Veronan Quillisars traditionally wear lighter ice-blue robes associated with wisdom, reflection, and balance.

  • One of the most common sayings shared across nearly all forms of the Quill is: “The energy is in you.” Often followed by: “The energy is in all of us.” Within Quill belief, there is no true death — only the transfer of energy from one form to another. Followers believe that when life ends, “the energy moves on,” taking a new form elsewhere in the universe.

  • The head of Belinean Quill, Quillisar Prill, sits equal to Archon Holden Hasarra in the grand Guraan chamber. Prior to Holden Hasarra taking over, no Quillisars were allowed in the Senate during session. Quillsar Farra, who ruled the Veronan Quill during Archon Lazarus’ time, merely watched from her Temple. Quillsar Balerra is recognized as the unofficial leader of the Avolan Quill.
